Redefining Royalty: Being a King in the Kingdom of God

Updated: Nov 25, 2023

In a world obsessed with earthly titles and material success, there exists a kingdom that operates on a different set of principles. This is the Kingdom of God, where believers are not just subjects but are called to be kings—co-heirs with Christ, the King of Kings. Embracing this identity transforms our perspective on power, purpose, and the pursuit of a life that truly matters.

A Kingdom of Servanthood:

Unlike earthly kingdoms where power often leads to oppression, in the Kingdom of God, kingship is synonymous with servanthood. Jesus, the King of Kings, set the ultimate example by washing the feet of His disciples. As kings in His kingdom, we are called to lead with humility, putting the needs of others above our own.

Royalty of Relationship:

In God's kingdom, the concept of kingship transcends mere authority; it is rooted in an intimate relationship with the King of Kings. As kings, our identity is found not in the titles we accumulate or the crowns we wear, but in the profound relationship we have with Jesus, who bestows upon us the privilege of being called His sons and daughters.

Investing in Eternal Treasures:

Earthly kingdoms often measure success by material wealth and temporal achievements. In the Kingdom of God, true riches are found in investing in eternal treasures. As kings, our focus shifts from amassing wealth on earth to laying up treasures in heaven—acts of love, kindness, and spreading the message of salvation.

Ruling with Righteousness:

The rulers of earthly kingdoms may fall prey to corruption and moral compromise. As kings in the Kingdom of God, our rule is grounded in righteousness. We are called to govern our lives, relationships, and decisions according to the principles of God's Word, reflecting the justice and integrity of our King.

Declaring the Good News:

Earthly kings issue decrees that shape the course of nations. In the Kingdom of God, our proclamation is the Good News of Jesus Christ. As kings, we have the privilege and responsibility to declare the message of salvation, inviting others into the Kingdom and participating in the expansion of God's reign on earth.

Unity in the Kingdom:

Earthly kingdoms often face division and strife. In the Kingdom of God, unity is paramount. As kings, we are part of a diverse, global family of believers. Our role is to foster unity, breaking down barriers and demonstrating the reconciling power of the King of Kings.

Being a king in the Kingdom of God is a profound calling that reshapes our understanding of authority, purpose, and success. It invites us to step into a role of servanthood, to prioritize eternal treasures over temporary gains, and to rule with righteousness and justice. As kings in this divine kingdom, our lives become a testament to the transformative power of our King, Jesus Christ, inviting others to join in the glorious reign of the King of Kings.
